Semolina/Rava - 1 cup
Onion-1 sliced
Tomato- 1 Chopped
Green chilli- 2 slit
Garlic- 3 pods(remove the skin)
Ginger- 1" inch
Curry eaves- few
Cashew- few numbers
Coriander leaves- few
Mint- 3 leaf
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Ghee- 1 tbsp
Oil- 1tbsp
Fennel seeds/sombu- 1/2 tsp
Patta- 1 no
Bay leaf- 1 or 2 no
Water-1 1/2 cup


1.First dry roast the semolina(Rava) in medium flame and keep aside.
2.In a pan/kadai heat ghee and oil. Add sombu,patta,bay leaf and wait until it crackles. Now add cashew,onions,tomato,green chilli,curry leaves,mint leaves,ginger and garlic. Saute till onion becomes translucent.
3.Add turmeric powder, salt and water. Allow water to boil for 5 min.
4.Add the roasted rava in to boiling water and stir continuously. Cook for another 3-4 mins. Garnish with coriander leaves. Yummy rava kichadi is ready to serve along with sambar/Coconut chutney. Enjoy your breakfast.


1.Always boil the water and put rava. Then only you will get soft/melting rava kichadi/rava upma anything.
2.You can also boil water separately and add at last to save time.
3.You can also add carrot,peas and your fav veggies too.
